Three (one woman and 2 men) Warrior Hikers were on schedule on their trek from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. They are from Ohio, Texas and Tennessee, and served in the Air Force, Marines, and Army. Their average hiking pace is 12 - 20 miles a day. Each carries their own gear, sets their own pace, and join up only if it works out that way. Each is doing his/her own hike.
The selection process to participate as a Warrior Hiker was by application and a psychological exam. Each has his/her own reason and personal goals they wanted to achieve. Someone from Warrior Expeditions (https://warriorexpeditions.org/) monitors their whereabouts and sets up their meet-ups with various people along the way. Typically, it's with other associations like the VFW.
The Warriors were very pleased with Noble View's warm welcome and accommodations. They were greeted by the Noble View Outdoor Centers volunteers and Boy Scout Troop 11. Hot showers, laundry service, and beds with mattresses were a true delight! Their dinner on Tuesday evening consisted of steaks, bison burgers, tuna steaks, shrimp, cheese & crackers, fresh fruit and grilled veggies, beer and wine. That evening, everyone enjoyed a campfire and conversation. Wednesday morning was filled with blueberry pancakes and bacon, more fresh fruit, juice & coffee! The Warriors were packed up and ready to return to the trail by 9 am.
We wish them good luck on their hike to Mt. Katahdin in Maine and thank them for their service.
