BNRC and MA DCR protect the ridgeline of the Hoosac Range from Route 2 to Spruce Hill. The Reserve has a three-mile hiking trail, spectacular views, high-elevation ponds, a community of plants more commonly found well to the north - and birdwatching during raptor migration. The 1.5 mile loop to Sunset Rock is a fine alternative for those without the time or stamina to hike all the way to Spruce Hill. The views are of the Taconic Range in New York, Windsor Lake, and the brand-new wind turbines in Monroe. There are options to continue on trails south in the Savoy Mountain State Forest and north in the Florida State Forest (be sure to wear orange during hunting season).
